DIPLOMA IN PERI-OPERATIVE THEATRE TECHNOLOGY

COURSE OVERVIEW

Perioperative Theatre Technology course equips the trainee with a wide range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to provide assistance to professional healthcare workers for the care of patients in an operating theatre room as well as prepare and maintain theatre equipment and safe handling of surgical instruments.

Perioperative Theatre Technology encompasses essential skills for managing operation theatres in hospitals. These skills include infection control, technical support, safety maintenance, instrument care, clinical assistance, and administrative duties. Trained professionals ensure patient safety through infection prevention and technical assistance to the theatre team. They uphold safety standards, manage instruments, and actively participate in surgeries, contributing to optimal patient care. Additionally, they handle administrative and managerial responsibilities, ensuring smooth operation of the theatre and overall hospital coordination.

Perioperative Theatre Technology consists of competencies that an individual should achieve to provide services in:
• Operation Theatre set up in a Hospital
• Operating Theatre machines and equipment
• Supporting Surgeons Theater Nurses in Clinical Procedures in the hospital.
• Preparation of Operating Theatre room and related services.

COURSE DURATION

Three (3) year full-time plus attachments/Clinical Placements at the end of each year in Sub-County Hospitals, County Referral Hospitals and Referral Hospitals respectively across the county.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

- The candidate must have obtained a minimum of C - (Minus) in KCSE.
- Minimum of D + (Plus) in Chemistry and Biology
- or Certificate in Perioperative Theatre Technology
