CERTIFICATE IN PATIENT CARE GIVER
COURSE OVERVIEW
This is a certificate course for a patient attendant or care giver. A patient attendant refers to someone who assists in any department of the hospital as required or directed by hospital personnel. It may also include the provision of assistance to another person who is ill, disabled, or needs help with daily activities in a hospital or home setting.
Some of the services offered by care givers include hospital departmental support service or assistance, this may include nursing care, physical or occupational therapy, hospice care, etc.- which mostly involves personal care, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal preparation and feeding, maintaining mobility, light housekeeping, companionship, taking and recording vital signs, any other errands, etc. Care giver’s work closely with patients, providing important social and emotional support and can if so directed be a vital source of information on the status of patients to medical staff.
Care givers must be able to deliver care that is compassionate, respectful and sympathetic to their patient’s vulnerability. A positive attitude is also crucial in an environment that is intended to promote healing. Care giver or any basic healthcare course is also a good starting point for anyone considering a career in the vast field of healthcare.

COURSE DURATION
One (1) year full-time plus attachments/Clinical Placements at the end of the year in Sub-County Hospitals, County Referral Hospitals and Referral Hospitals respectively across the county.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have obtained a minimum of D+ (PLUS) in KCSE.
